Make It Monday - designing we've moved cards
so recently I've really gotten into designing siggies for forums and thought it would be fun to design my own we've moved cards. This is what I've made and I went to Costco to have them printed and now I just need to get some envelopes and send them out. I think I've found another addiction, lol.

Work In Progress Wednesday - busy week
It's been quite the week and we've gotten many things done. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do much but be a mom to the kids. Moriah started having horrible bronchospasms so I had to take her to the dr and then spent most of the time trying to keep her calm when all she wanted to do was play. It's been rough and my sweet girl needs lots of prayers for healing.
Let's see... where do I begin? I almost feel like I should just go room by room instead of trying to go in order of what we did, so here goes...
Upstairs: Moriah's room the curtain rod finally was put up, YAY! The broken house fan was taken out and will eventually be drywalled over. The other two bedrooms didn't have anything done. The bathroom got a lot of work done. First, the new light fixture was installed, then the disconnected and not vented anywhere fan was taken out and Mark put in a new fan with a light. He then went into the attic and the fan had been covered over with insulation so that was taken out and then he made a hole in the roof and vented the fan outside. YAY! We can take hot showers again and other than patching walls and paint and putting in the new sink drain we are pretty much done with the upstairs bathroom.
Stairs: my Dad finished the new hardwood on the stairs and Mark helped prep them... We had taken out the carpet and he had done the hallway and this visit he worked on the stairs. The look so beautiful and all that's left is for Mark to put up paint the wood that we'll use for the risers and install that. Then we'll sand and finish the new floors which I need to figure out what color I want to stain them. The risers will be painted white. I would have loved to stain them all but it would have been too much work and probably would have had to take it all out and start from scratch. The stairs leading upstairs he used the remaining hardwood planks from doing the hallway and some bullnose... for the stairs from the main floor to the lower level we just bought the full step.
The main level: Mark changed the rest of the outlet recepticles. We found out that the shades we bought for the living room were recalled so we will be returning them and are on the hunt for something else. I'm so saddened for the family who lost a loved one because of the design of the shades.
The lower level: my mom spent all of her time in the family room washing off the rest of the wallpaper and paste. She did a great job, it was such a big project and we were really happy to find nicely painted walls underneath so prepping them for painting will be so easy. During nap times Mark and my dad worked in the crawl space... There was a broken/open window down there and the window well was filled up with dirt and gravel. That explains why the crawlspace was so humid. So, they emptied the window well and then had the window repaired and caulked up. Mark had also earlier in the week put a dehumidifier in there and hooked it up to the sump pump so get all that moisture out of there. The humidity went from 95% to 65% in a couple days and that was when the window was open/broken so I can't imagine how much better it is in there. OK, after all the stairs were done, the guys worked in the 4th bedroom. Because of the cracks in the foundation there was some mold to finish cleaning up. The studs had to be replaced and the studs between the bedroom and family room had to be cut and replaced. Then Mark finished cleaning up the mold. The goal is to try to finish up that room since it will be his office and it would be nice to have him working from home a couple days a week again since his commute is so long.
Well, I think I got everything... unfortunately, the pictures will have to wait until tomorrow when I have some time to convert them from RAW to jpg. I guess Foto Friday will have lots and lots of pictures for you.

What was your hardest home improvement project?
For me, I'd have to say fixing up and painting the kitchen cabinets. I wish we could afford to totally remodel the kitchen but more important things are needing our money right now. It's been a lot of hard work getting them sanded and filling the holes and mostly just cleaning them up. Next on the agenda is to clean them with TSP and get them primed and painted and then put on the new hardware... I'm still experimenting with the hinges because I can't just buy new hinges for the doors and spray painting them doesn't seem to be working very well either... We'll see what happens.

Work In Progress Wednesday
Well, I feel like I'm going to disappoint since this update isn't as full as last weeks and then I remember that last week's was 3 weeks worth of work and this week is only one week. I also decided to spend more time with the kids instead of spending so much time on the house. This move has been hard on Moriah so I felt the need to give her some extra attention. As you can see from my previous post we got a double stroller so we've been outside enjoying the neighborhood and the paths near us. I've been enjoying being out of the house too.
Moriah and I modeling the necklaces Moriah made for us

OK, now to our work in progress... mostly the main thing has been getting estimates from several siding companies, with much disappointment. Mostly we haven't been impressed with any of the company's customer service and not about to hand over a load of money to anyone who doesn't make us feel confident in their work. So, that's taken much of our time, or should I say wasted our time, sigh...
We have done some shopping though, since our living room is the only room, besides the bedrooms, that is safe for the kids to be in we decided to do a little decorating. I found a rug that I just absolutely adore and we put up some nice shades in the windows. We also put a new light fixture in the entryway and moved our hope chest in there. The hope chest has become a toy chest until we can move the play area into the family room. We also changed the outlet receptacles... many of them were so old that you couldn't keep anything plugged into them. Lastly, we moved the computer from the family room to the living room since the family room is still torn apart. It's so nice to have the computer up and running and Internet working again...

Since Isaac is a major explorer we felt the need to put up a gate at the top of the stairs that lead to the family room. This has been so great to have so he can do all the exploring he wants... problem is, we still don't have the kitchen cabinets done so he's loving exploring in the kitchen. I really need to get them done so he can explore all he wants and I don't feel bad keeping him out.

My biggest accomplishment was installing a new sink faucet in the bathroom. Well, it was a bigger project than we expected. We installed the first faucet (yes, I said first... more later) and we were so excited and turned the water back on to test it out and nothing happened. The faucet was defective. This is the second think we've gotten from Menards that was defective right out of the box but not known until we installed it. We've decided we plan to stick to Home Depot, Lowes and Ace from now on. The funny thing is that we get ads every couple days for Menards and it's so nice to throw it straight into the recycle bin instead of looking at it. They have great prices and I have two light fixtures that I love from there but I can't believe we've gotten so many defective things from them. So, we went and returned the faucet and ended up buying a new one. We also decided to buy a different brand and totally different faucet. I really like the new faucet and it's so easy for Moriah to use which was our main reasoning for getting a new one. Well, we installed it but something was wrong, LOL. To turn on the faucet you had to turn the handles off, to turn off the faucet you had to turn the handles on... by this time it was bed time for the kids and we had already had a rough time getting the faucet in. We decided to leave it until we had time. Well, I grew impatient and so the next day during Isaac's nap I went in there and took the whole thing out and re-installed it by myself. Turns out we installed it backwards, lol. The piece that we installed backwards was the hardest part to get on. Somewhere I got some adrenaline and I was able to get it in. Turned the water on and YAY it was installed right. We still need to install the drain but we figured that could wait until we really do have the time and just keep the old one in for now.

OOPS

My parents are coming early next week to work no the house, we hope to get a ton accomplished while they are here, including fixing the exhaust fan in the bathroom, fixing the issues in the attic and finishing the stairs and possibly buying new entryway doors.

Tuesday's Two a couple days late

OK, today I'm going to feature two of my favorite baby items right now...
Mountain Buggy Urban Double Stroller
I was really wanting to start running again which I haven't in a few years but what was I going to do with the kids... I'm a huge babywearer and enjoy going for walks with them but it's not safe to run and babywear at the same time. What to do... I searched high and low for a jogging stroller that would suit my needs. I wanted a side by side that was all-terrain for the Arboretum but narrow enough to fit through doors. I wanted something that would be easy to push since I knew it was going to be hard enough starting to run again after so many years. I had narrowed it down to two strollers and in the end it came down to price but I have to say that I'm so happy with the one I ended up with. It's been so great to run again and I love taking my kids along with me for the ride.
Mommy's Touch One Size Pockets w/ Snaps
I've tried many different styles of cloth diapers from prefolds with covers to all-in-ones. I found though that my favorite are pocket style diapers. It's like a cover with a pocket to fill with absorbing inserts. When I figured that out I tried several different brands too. The ones that seem to work best for my children are the Mommy's Touch brand and I LOVE all the many colors. Of all that I've tried this is the only diaper I haven't had any leaks with and they clean up really nice. I've also tried both velcro and snaps and I find that I get a better fit with the snaps. The other issue I have with velcro is that Isaac figured out how to remove his diaper pretty quickly, lol. They really aren't that much more care than with disposables and I love that I'm not filling up the landfills. I do a load of laundry every day so I'm finding that I'm washing the diapers every 2-3 days so I don't have to buy so many diapers and I don't have any problem with smell that way either. I love how gentle they are on my baby's bottom w/ no chemicals like you have in disposables... I could go on and on about the benefits of cloth diapering... I started cloth diapering when Moriah was potty learning and it was also a trial to see how much I liked it. I was pregnant with Isaac at the time so I got mostly gender neutral colors... other than the one Hello Kitty diaper... so, now I'm able to use them with Isaac. Because they are one size diapers I just snap them up to fit from newborn to potty learning.
(sorry no pictures... the diaper is usually covered up with shorts or onesie to keep Isaac from taking them off, lol)

How do you let off steam?
I have to workout everyday in order to let off some steam... I've noticed that since I stopped working out in order to move that I haven't been the most pleasant person to be around. This week I ordered a new double stroller and I plan to get some new running shoes and then I hope to get out first thing in the morning with the kids to run around the new neighborhood. I can't wait!

Work In Progress Wednesday - update on the past 3 weeks
Well, it's been 3 weeks since I last updated on the house. So many things have been done with the house but it feels like nothing has been done. We've been doing bits and pieces here and there in every single room so since no room is completely done it feels like nothing has been done. Seriously, I have to remind myself of all that has been done.
First, we moved into a house that has no working appliances... we finally have all of our appliances and feel like we finally have a functioning house. Most of the appliances were scratch and dent appliances so we got great deals on some of our dream appliances. We must admit though that even the new in box appliances were pretty good deals too. I must say that it feels so good to have my own washer and dryer that actually cleans the clothes. I am so excited to be cloth diapering Isaac again. I LOVE my fridge, it's huge and so much better than the old small one we had in our apartment. I also love finally having a gas range too. Last I updated I was hoping to have the kitchen cabinets done... well, that got put on the back burner because we ran into some bigger projects that needed to be done before we moved in.

We knew there was a crack in the foundation so we needed to open up the wall to see what was behind there... turns out we needed to open up more all through to the family room and then the previous homeowner's dog had made a mess of the drywall in the bedroom so we took down all the drywall in the bedroom only to find another crack that you can't see from the outside because the landscaping is too high against the house... Anyways, it's time to order a dumpster since this was becoming a bigger project than expected. YAY, we have a dumpster let's fill it up!
4th bedroom

Let me tell you about the family room... we're not sure what was going on in there... The fireplace was a mix of victorian and log cabin and there was wood paneling EVERYWHERE! Also, there was wallpaper that was painted hunter green and some of it was bubbling so it definitely needed to come down. Lastly, it had these beams going across the ceiling that served no purpose and were literally looking like they were going to fall anyways... Let's fill that dumpster! My parents came to help work on the house so my mom and I worked at getting the paneling down and the wallpaper down. I had to leave the paneling up on the fireplace since it was actually nailed to the mantal. We figured the 4 of us would take down the beams but that ended up being super easy and my dad and Mark were able to take them down and mom and I happily tossed them in the dumpster, getting several splinters in the process. I must say that it looks so much better with wallpaper paste on the walls and torn out drywall than it did before, lol.

Did I mention we had a dumpster... well the house smelled like smoke and dog and was obviously never cleaned. The carpet HAD to go... thankfully, it was only on the upstairs hallway and the stairs... the rest of the house is hardwood or laminate or vinyl tiles. We weren't sure what we'd find under the carpet but we ended up going to Home Depot and buying some unfinished hardwood and my dad installed it in the hallway. The stairs ended up being tougher than we thought so they are still a work in progress.

Oh, the dumpster... we also had a fence in back that served no purpose since the neighbors had privacy fences up so while we had the dumpster we took out the two sides of fence that had fences on the other sides.
Before (taken when we first saw the house)

After

Last update I told you I was having difficulties finding lighting to work with vaulted ceilings but I found some that work and some of them have been installed. I must say that it's so nice to have great lighting in the kitchen now and a nice chandelier in the dining room.

Let's see while we torn out all the drywall in the family room and 4th bedroom we ended up tearing out the drywall in the bathroom down there too... and the toilet... and then Mark decided we're just going to need to gut the bathroom and start from scratch... there are pipes that lead to nowhere and the shower just has a hole in the bottom and no real drain... did I mention pipes that lead to nowhere? Looks like everyone will be using the upstairs bathroom for quite awhile and the lower level well, I only go down there to do the laundry.
downstairs bathroom

The living room has become our temporary family room until we can get the lower level in working order.
OK, last dumpster comment... the previous owner left tons and tons and tons of trash... so much that with everything we did we ended up filling our dumpster which we really didn't think we would... well other than someone throwing their personal trash in our dumpster... oh well, I guess I'm not surprised considering how much you have to pay for trash removal.

Painting... well, I was really hoping we could paint so that this place could look more like our home instead of the previous owner's choice of home decorating... well, time has flown and more important projects have come up and it's just been put on the backburner for quite awhile. I'm a bit bummed and I know that it's the reason I feel like nothing has been done on the place, but hopefully in a couple months things will have settled down a bit so we can start painting and making this place ours.
The upstairs bathroom... there was a huge hole in the wall so I covered it with a plate that matches our shower curtain and I installed a new towel bar. Since this is our only functioning bathroom, I needed something that would hold more than 2 towels. I'm in the process now of installing a new sink faucet too since the one we have is really hard for Moriah to use. I also changed the hardware on the doors and plan to do some major painting in there whenever we get to actually painting.

I installed a new thermostat! I'm so proud of myself for doing it but it was rather easy when you just follow the instructions... I also installed the new door bell... both of these things were broken and needed to be done. We couldn't even tell what the thermostat was set at but now it's so nice to see and it's great knowing that people aren't afraid to press the doorbell now, lol.

Unpacking... We've done a ton of it, although there are still a ton of boxes still to go through. Hopefully, by the end of the month we'll be all unpacked and things will be in a little bit in order.
I'm sure I'm missing a ton stuff that we've done in the past 3 weeks... we did meet some of our new neighbors and we are excited that there are so many young kids in the neighborhood.
Hopefully, the next updates won't be so long since I'll be updating every week. It's so good to be back online! I really missed having internet and communicating with friends for those 2 weeks I was without it.
Picture of the front of the house, which is also a before picture... if you look closely you can see the cedar boarded up and behind the bushes is a whole lot of rotted wood and stucco... getting estimates for siding and new windows also.

First, we moved into a house that has no working appliances... we finally have all of our appliances and feel like we finally have a functioning house.
